Specific yet diverse trainings from NLADA will inform, inspire, and empower you to carry the torch of equal justice in your community and nationwide. We offer opportunities for professional and leadership development, for developing substantive legal practice, and for skills building.
Civil Training Opportunities Understanding and meeting the training needs of equal justice advocates and staff at every level of the legal aid system is an NLADA priority. NLADA offers at least two national training conferences each year to the civil legal aid community, and we support and promote state-based and regional training opportunities.
Defender Training Opportunities NLADA sets the standard for up-to-date innovative, interactive, faculty-intensive training programs and conferences. Training is a key component of NLADA's mission to seek justice for all by providing high-quality, cost-efficient legal representation to indigent persons accused of committing crimes. An experienced and dynamic faculty, carefully selected for each particular program based on their professional expertise, conducts all of NLADA's trainings. NLADA's conferences offer innovations in technology and management techniques and strategies plus opportunities to sharpen trial, appellate, and training skills.
Webinars NLADA hosts webinars that strengthen the work of the civil legal aid and public defender communities. Upcoming sessions are listed below, and recordings of previous webinars are available here to make the ideas and expertise those sessions offer available to a broader audience. BJA Technical Assistance Webinar Series: Budget Advocacy in 21st Century Defender offices that must appeal to local or state legislatures for increased budgets could benefit greatly from allies who will advocate for their cause. With whom should you cultivate relationships? When? What strategies open the door to these relationships? This three-webinar series, hosted by American Universit and NLADA, helps defenders strengthen their ability to advocate for their offices and, as a result, for their clients.
